Biography

Steve Atlas, who is entering Columbia Business School as a doctoral student in marketing, is pursuing interests in quantitative research methods in virtual worlds and in the marketing of virtual services. He received a Master’s in economics from Tufts University in May, 2008, after completing a thesis entitled “Economic Experiments in Virtual Worlds”, in which he replicated a classic economic “trust game” experiment in Second Life to increase the sample size 20-fold compared with traditional offline methods. He also founded OutSorcerer.com, a global network of low-cost, yet reliable virtual assistants and business consultants. Previously, he was a researcher and writer for Metanomics.net, which analyzes the business and policy issues of virtual worlds.
