There is an increasingly broad-based consensus that games are a powerful and underutilized tool for learning. Exploring the potential of games to support children’s learning on a broad scale comes with its own set of research, design, and distribution challenges. Few games have reached children across school and out-of-school settings that have meaningful learning outcomes and sustainable business models. Innovative, multi-disciplinary partnerships across the for-profit and non-profit sectors may be an effective strategy to further both of these goals. As a case example, Michael Levine from the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop and Alan Gershenfeld from E-Line Ventures will discuss one model for a public-private collaboration that they have recently launched.
