Modern game play is a complex, multi-layered activity. As a result, collecting and analyzing data of game play, in all of its richness, can be challenging.

This presentation will introduce Transana 2.40, a new version of software for the qualitative analysis of video and audio data that now supports multiple simultaneous media files. We will describe our experience capturing, preparing, and analyzing game play data using screen capture recording, separate audio chat recording, and the incorporation of post-play player commentary and reflection. We will also demonstrate the analytic capacities of Transana using game play data.
