Thu., June 11, 3:30–4:30, Play Circle Theater (2nd floor, West)

With the adoption of touch-screen, web-connected portable computers, whole new opportunities for education and citizenship are being made possible. Based on the previous work done in the areas of place-based learning, augmented reality, and educational gaming, the ARIS team has been anticipating how this new media may be utilized.

Over the last several months, our team has been building three to five mini-games every 2 weeks to explore the possibilities of mobile media experiences. We have been asking the question “What fun gameplay options does mobile technologies offer?” and we have been building designs to demonstrate and test our theories. Along the way, we have been expanding our mobile game engine based on our findings and are releasing it as a community-supported, open-source project.

In this session we will do a quick post-mortem of the ARIS Game Jam process, play a few of our best designs, then reconvene to debrief and teach how you can start making mobile games with ARIS.

In order to ensure the maximum amount of playing time, please make sure to bring iPhones if you have them and to come a little earlier than the posted workshop time.
