This presentation is about the research and development of KidGrid, a formative assessment iPhone tool for teachers. The KidGrid application allows teachers to collect a variety of student behavioral and performance data in daily classroom activity, while links to the school and district databases enable teachers to call up information on students, curricula, and learning outcomes in the context of teaching and learning. I will discuss how KidGrid is poised to radically change how teachers use data to interact with students, and how applications like KidGrid provide legitimate tools to draw teachers into the culture of digital learning support tools.
