Garry’s Mod is a popular add–on to Valve’s Source game engine. Typically used by gamers to create their own game worlds and levels, it can also be extended to allow the modeling of complex mathematical and logical concepts. Lane Lawley, a home-schooled high school student, and his mother Liz Lawley, a professor in Rochester Institute of Technology’s Interactive Games and Media department, will show how this game engine mod can be used to support mathematical and computational learning. This Chat ’n’ Frag will include a tutorial on how to install and use the software, as well as real–time examples of math and logic modeling in the game.
