Javier Elizondo
Biography

Javier Elizondo is the director of JUMP Into Reading for Meaning, a Star Schools grant held by Pacific Resources for Education and Learning in Honolulu, Hawaii. The JUMP team developed Cosmos Chaos!, an innovative educational game to assist struggling readers with vocabulary development. Prior to his work with JUMP, Javier was responsible for the quality assurance of NEARStar, a game-based, online ESL and Reading Program also funded by Star Schools. At the end of the grant, NEARStar was licensed to Scholastic as Zip Zoom English, with Javier managing the transition. Previous to joining PREL, Javier served as the director of Pacific Learning Services (PLS) an instructional design company that provided multimedia educational services to a range of governments and institutions, including PREL, the World Health Organization, the Asian Development Bank, the International Labor Organization, the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia, and American Samoa. In the late 1990s he worked as Multimedia Coordinator for the Center for the Application of Information Technologies at Western Illinois University (WIU). During this time he helped to launch WIU’s distance learning initiative that in collaboration with PREL started the first distance learning master's program across the Pacific Rim. In his native Mexico, Javier worked for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and as a journalist for radio, TV, and print. Javier has an MA in Public Communication and Broadcasting from Western Illinois University and a BA in Communication from the Technological Institute of Monterrey, Mexico.
