Phill Alexander
Biography
Phill Alexander is a first-year PhD student in rhetoric and writing at Michigan State University. He completed his AA in political science, BA in english (creative writing) at Indiana University, and MA in composition and rhetoric at Miami University.
Phill’s research is concerned with investigating sites of intersection between digital media, interactive social networks, and popular culture. While much of his work is devoted to multiplayer videogames, it is critically important both as scholars and as citizens in a diverse digital society to reflect on and investigate the where, why, and when of popular rhetoric and writing. To this end, he is particularly interested in exploring blogging, social networking, the use of mobile devices, text messaging, and other activities not traditionally considered writing. Phill also turns a critical eye on popular media — movies, television, comic books, videogames — in an attempt to essentially recover these cultural artifacts that are so often neglected by the academy.
