Peggy Sheehy
Biography
During a former life as a professional musician, Peggy Sheehy received a BS from Empire State University. She began teaching in 1997 at Mt. Sinai Elementary School in New York and was a district technology trainer. After receiving her master’s Degree in educational technology from Stony Brook University, she was named Technology Teacher of the Year from ASSET, for her work with “Tomorrow's Classroom Today.”
In 2001, Peggy moved to Greenville, SC and taught at Stone Academy of Communication Arts. She attended USC at Columbia to begin her MLIS. In 2002 she was named Teacher of the Year at Stone Academy.
Peggy is currently a media specialist at Suffern Middle School. In 2006, Peggy established the first middle school in Teen Second Life, Ramapo Islands, which hosts 1400 students and teachers.
Peggy has presented her work at COSN, NSBA, Tech Expo, Tech Forum, NYSCATE, NECC, EdNet, NMC, BLC, and was Keynote Speaker at CLMS Technology Conference and WSTCSS Conference. She has published numerous articles and interviews for educational journals and magazines: Technology & Learning, School Library Journal, Learning & Leading with Technology, and Edutopia.
A true pioneer in virtual worlds and games for education, she is sought out for advice, curriculum direction and professional development. Her latest passion is the adaptation of World of Warcraft to enhance middle school curriculum.
Peggy’s work supports the proposal, design, acquisition, and implementation of education in MUVEs, MMORPGs, Web 2.0, and any venture that will increase student collaboration supporting ethics, empathy, and PLAYFUL learning!
