Ben A. Hitt
Biography
Ben A. Hitt, PhD, is the director of the Wheeling Jesuit University Schenk Center for Informatic Sciences (SCIS). SCIS is dedicated to informatics education, research, and technology transfer activities. SCIS uses techniques from applied mathematics, informatics, statistics, and computer science to solve a variety of problems where the amount of data is overwhelming. Dr. Hitt has served as chief scientist/CTO and co-founder of Correlogic Systems, Inc., in Bethesda, Maryland. At Correlogic, he co-invented the pattern recognition approach to disease detection, as well as the company's proprietary Proteome Quest software, which is designed to analyze patterns in human blood proteins to detect disease. His works also include inventions for analyzing disparate data streams, near real-time analysis of audio and text information streams, applications for the detection of credit card fraud, and optimization solutions for direct marketing problems.
