Jayne Lammers is a PhD candidate at Arizona State University — working towards a degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with a concentration in Language and Literacy. She comes to her study of gaming and literacy with a background as a corporate software trainer and as a secondary Language Arts/Reading teacher. As a research assistant on the TechSavvy Girls Project, led by Elisabeth Hayes, Jayne introduced girls to The Sims and mentored them to pursue learning trajectories based on their own interests.

Her dissertation research is an online ethnographic study exploring literacies, learning, and identities around Sims fan fiction. Jayne spends much of her time lurking in Sims-related fan communities, collecting data and attempting to make sense of what she finds in these spaces.
