Mark Chen
Biography
Mark Chen is a PhD Candidate at the University of Washington-Seattle, College of Education (finishing this year; looking for a job!), looking at groups of gamers in the MMO game World of Warcraft (WoW). He uses ethnographic methods emphasizing personal narrative and experience as a lifelong digital and tabletop gamer. With his work in WoW, he focuses on group learning and teamwork, communication, and expertise development, and has also started looking at socialization and marginalization in WoW communities. Prior to doctoral work, Mark was the webmaster and a web game developer for the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland, Oregon. He holds a BA in Studio Art from Reed College and grew up in the Bay Area as a child of the 80s. You can read more about Mark on his blog at http://markdangerchen.net.
