Robert Wisher

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Robert (Bob) Wisher is the Director of the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) Initiative within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Bob has oversight of four ADL Co-Laboratories (FL, TN, WI, VA) and two ADL Technology Centers (PA, VA). He also serves as the U.S. delegate to the NATO Working Group on individual training and educational developments. Previously, Bob served as a Senior Research Psychologist at the Army Research Institute and was a scientific officer at the Office of Naval Research. Throughout his career, Bob has specialized in research on the learning sciences and the effectiveness of training technologies. He now deals with policies for the application of training technologies across the Department of Defense. Bob received a B.S. degree in mathematics from Purdue University and a Ph. D. degree in cognitive psychology from the University of California, San Diego. Also, Dr. Wisher was a visiting scholar at the Center for Research on Learning and Technology at Indiana University. In 2005 he was inducted into the U.S. Distance Learning Association Hall of Fame.

 

ABSTRACT

Games & The Military

Dr. Robert Wisher, Director of the Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative, will chair the panel. Military participants will share their experiences with using or managing the games or gaming technology for military training. They will explore the use of standards, specific projects and lessons learned.
