Laurie Hartjes

Biography

Laurie is a pediatric nurse practitioner and 3rd-year doctoral student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Laurie's research examines the effects of global environmental change on human health within a framework of travel health. She has conducted an online survey of study abroad student travel health risk perceptions and prevention action plans. The focus of her dissertation research is to develop a web-based game that targets study abroad student risk appraisal and provides practice with decision-making about personal prevention actions. Evaluation will be conducted on three different versions of the game that vary the way players receive feedback for actions taken, and will include pre/post assessments and analysis of in-game activity.
